About Me
Dr. Savitz-Smith courtesy D. Marie Photography
I grew up in Columbia. I graduated with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My bachelor's degree is in Child Development and Family Studies. I am an avid college basketball fan. My Master's and Educational Specialist degree are from UNC-Greensboro in counseling. I earned my doctorate in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina with a cognate in Family Counseling.
I have been practicing counseling since 2000. I have worked with all ages of clients. I enjoy working with families and groups as well. I am married and have boy/girl twins. I enjoy reading and spending time with my family. I love counseling and have a dedication to helping people improve their lives. My clients generally refer to me as Jenny, or even Dr. Jenny.
I have become known as a child therapist in Columbia. I love my work with children and adolescents, but that population only makes up about 50% of my practice. I also see adults and families. I am passionate about working with adults who want to improve their lives and make positive changes. I see counseling as a journey. The therapist and client are guides, together. The construction of the therapy occurs within the relationship of the therapist and the client. The relationship is sacred and is also a great way to learn how to further the client's relationships outside of the office.
